Iconic Mid-Century Modern architecture with sweeping views of Portage Bay & UW, designed by legendary PNW architect Ralph Anderson, this masterpiece blends into an equally impressive lot with sweeping views of Portage Bay, UW & the Cascade Mountains. Once featured in The Seattle Times as a significant example of mid-century architecture, expertly juxtaposing dramatic ceiling heights, crisp contours & stained wood elements with the surrounding natural beauty. A recent remodel strikes a rare balance between aesthetic preservation & functional updates (radiant heat, AC, electrical, plumbing, seismic retrofit). You'll love the fabulous floorplan with views from most rooms & the spacious kitchen next to the private front terrace for al fresco dining. What the sellers loved about living here
Oh, home in the park -- we will miss you! We will miss watching the moon rise from the living room deck - or from inside on cold evenings. We will miss the symphony of birds that delight in Interlaken Park and the hummingbirds that peek in the windows when their feeders are low. We will miss the walks in the park and through the woods after the snow falls. When we were lucky, we would spot the owls that live in the area where car traffic is not allowed. We will miss the glory of the leaves changing in Fall and the flowers budding in Spring. We will miss watching the osprey hunt and the eagles claim their territories over Portage Bay.
From our family’s nest, we could pop onto highways - north, south, east, and west - within minutes. We could paddle, play, jump on a path to the Burke-Gilman just below us at Montlake Community Center, or take a quick jaunt to Lake Union or Lake Washington. Restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping are all so close by that we didn’t even worry about traffic. And if we did venture to University Village, Seattle Center, or Downtown, we could choose to avoid traffic and bike there easily.
Most of all, we will miss our neighbors. The small cluster of households in the park could depend on each other in times of need. We helped each other through the pandemic, meeting at our patio for outdoor movies and distanced picnics. We have shared laughs, leftovers, plants, and handymen. We could not have asked for a better place to call our home in Seattle.
